If you have only one day to explore the Bay of Islands, a wide choice awaits.

Visit Waitangi Treaty Grounds where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed. Take a tour and view the magnificent Maori war canoe, Maori meeting house and the Treaty House. (takes 1-2 Hours)

Visit historic and romantic Russell. Take a Russell mini tour or wander around the town by yourself. Russell Museum tells you the history of the town. Don't miss Christ Church - NZ's oldest church and Pompallier - NZ's heritage printery. If it is a nice day, take a walking track up to the Flagstaff Hill look out - magnificent views! 2 Days

Day 1:Waka, Waitangi Treaty Grounds, Bay of Islands, New Zealand

In the morning visit Waitangi Treaty Grounds where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed. Take a tour and view the magnificent Maori war canoe, Maori meeting house and the Treaty House. Experience Cultural Shows or enjoy lunch at the cafe. (takes 1-3 Hours)

After visiting Waitangi, drive through Waitangi golf course, up to Mt. Bledisloe Look Out and then go to Haruru Falls.

Drive to Kerikeri (20 Min.drive from Haruru Falls) and enjoy your afternoon. Visit Stone Store & Kemp House, Rainbow Falls, Wineries, Orchards, Arts & Crafts Shops, Chocolate Factory, local Cafes and Restaurants etc.

Day 2: Excitor Fast Boat Adventure, Bay of Islands, New Zealand

Take one of the cruises in the Bay in the morning:

  • Excitor (1 1/2 Hours)

Visit historic and romantic Russell in the afternoon. Most bay cruises stop at Russell wharf on the way back. You can also take a passenger ferry from Paihia wharf or vehicle ferry from Opua wharf.

5 Days

This 5 Day Itinerary is based on drive from Auckland to the Bay of Islands on the first day, stay in the Bay of Islands for 4 nights and drive back to Auckland on the last day.

Day 1:

In the morning depart Auckland for Bay of Islands on the East Coast Highway 1 via Waipu and Whangarei and Kawakawa. (takes approx. 3 1/2 Hours without stops)

Stop at Waipoua Forest and see the giant Kauri tree ‘Tane Mahuta’ and enjoy the various walks and forests.

Depending on how much time you have you could stop at Kai Iwi Lakes, Baylys Beach or Matakohe before arriving Auckland. Options are as follows:

  • Kai Iwi Lakes - a stunning recreational reserve that provides a playground for swimming, boating, windsurfing, water skiing and trout fishing.
  • Baylys Beach - Explore the beach and view towering sand dunes by horseback or quad bike.
  • Matakohe - Visit the Kauri Museum, you will discover the story of the magnificent kauri tree, its timber, gum, and the early pioneers to the district.

7 Days

This 7 Day Itinerary is based on drive from Auckland to the Bay of Islands on the first day, stay in the Bay of Islands for 6 nights and drive back to Auckland on the last day.

Day 1:

In the morning depart Auckland for Bay of Islands on the East Coast Highway 1 via Waipu, Whangarei, Tutukaka and Kawakawa (takes approx. 4 1/2 Hours without stops)
